Liberate Roothold

Liberate Roothold is a liberation quest that tasks Kliff with driving Gwen Kraber's hostile forces from the stronghold of Roothold in Hernand. Completing it frees Roothold for House Celeste and the local population, rewards Kliff with Gwen's Spear and an Abyss Artifact, and opens new opportunities in the region. It is a representative example of the game's liberation system.

The liberation battle at Roothold features multiple stages, beginning with clearing outer fortifications before breaching the inner keep where Gwen Kraber serves as the final boss. Gwen is a formidable spear-wielding opponent with long reach and sweeping attacks, so players using shorter-range weapons should focus on dodge-timing and punishing her recovery frames rather than trading blows directly. Gwen's Spear reward is one of the strongest mid-game polearms available and comes with a unique thrust ability, making this quest particularly valuable for players who favor that weapon class. Liberating Roothold also permanently changes the region's political landscape, converting it into a friendly settlement with new merchants, a fast-travel point, and access to House Celeste faction quests that further expand the Hernand storyline.
